Author Visits
Invite Cockroach the Superhero and his creator, Steve Frederick to your classroom. For many years, he has delighted students with readings from his books—and drafts of his books before he published.
Programs have included:
SUPERHERO TRIVIA
Kids can show their prowess in superhero lore and share their knowledge of superheroes from Spiderman to Wonder Woman to Captain America to the Incredible Hulk and the Black Widow.
SUPERHERO STORIES
Steve Frederick will bring to life the adventures of Kyle Alexander and his best friend Carlos Santana (no relation to the musician or the baseball player). They grapple with the stunning events that turned Kyle, a scared and clumsy kid into a superhero—who is still scared and clumsy—who tries to fight crime alongside the city’s great superheroes. Kyle (aka Cockroach) must overcome his fears as he comes face to face with awful criminals like Rocky the Rat, the Grizzly Bear Gang, and Shotgun Jones & Luke.
WRITING EXPERIENCE
All of us have stories waiting to be told. We’ll talk about how Cockroach the Superhero came to be and how my life informs my story. We’ll talk about the process of writing, getting started, tapping into their lives for inspiration. Stories don’t have to be perfect. Writing often starts out just OK, but if we keep at it, it can blossom into amazing work. In fact, expecting perfection often gets in the way of getting anything done.
