About Steve Frederick

Steve’s life shows that you should never give up on your dreams. When he was a kid, Steve watched superheroes on TV and read lots of comic books. He thought it would be fun to become a superhero when he grew up, but he never did get super powers. This was unfortunate because he would have made an outstanding superhero.

But many times, when life closes a door, it opens a window. Years later, he had a son named Ryan. Long before he could read, Ryan also loved superhero stories, so Steve told him all the stories he could remember about Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Daredevil, the Hulk, and more.

Ryan never got tired of hearing superhero stories, and there came a day when Steve had to say, “I just don’t remember any more superhero stories.”

Without thinking for even a second, Ryan said, “Then make some up!” That was the beginning of a long road that eventually led to the stories about a superhero named Cockroach. Over the years, Steve read drafts of his stories at his son’s grade school, and he became known as “The Superhero Dad.” So, his dream of being a superhero actually came true—sort of.

Besides writing about superheroes, Steve is a career coach and a freelance writer. He also does community work to advance truth, justice and the American way. His work has been published in numerous publications in the Chicago area.

He lives in Skokie, Illinois.
